“The happiest people romanticize their life because they know magic exists where they choose to find it.”
Meet the Founder
My name is Jordan, and I grow cut flowers seasonally, sustainably and organically in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. As a one-woman shop, I’m focused on sharing the way flowers make me feel with as many people as possible. That’s through offerings to local florists and event designers, seasonal market bouquets, wholesale blooms, and empowering garden growth as a coach and consultant.
Put simply, I’m a gal who loves to grow things. My general interest in houseplants and a few herbs evolved into a full-fledged obsession with growing my own cut flowers from seed around 2020, when I discovered that the desperate, scared, stuck feeling so many of us experienced in that era could be soothed by watching seedlings come to life. No matter how many things I grow, I never stop feeling like plants are amazing, and I hope I never do.
When I’m not gardening, I’m raising three rescue pitbulls, traveling, and constantly in the middle of some kind of home project. I’ve lived in the DMV area for 13 years now and spent 8 of those years in the district before going suburban. The unique heritage of Old Town Alexandria keeps me excited to continue building community here through blooms.
Every bloom I produce is hand-grown with love using all organic and seasonal practices. I’m committed to sharing the same ethos with other gardeners, and I love seeing how the common challenges we face can also inspire more people to turn to the dirt and get into the garden.
Old Town Botanical’s values
SEASONALLY-DRIVEN
We believe local flowers shouldn’t feel like a compromise for florists, designers or customers bringing them home. We believe in grown not flown. We believe in enjoying the most beautiful blooms of each season, when they’re truly in-season. We believe seasonal absence makes the heart grow fonder. We believe slow can be best.
IMPACT-CONSCIOUS & REAL
We believe floristry can be a genuinely sustainable industry. We believe in all-organic growing methods that support pollinators and local ecosystems as much as they support humans. We believe that florals are among nature’s sweetest expressions of her power. We believe that the bounty the earth offers us should feel real, vibrant, and natural – never cold, corporatized, or mass-produced. We believe in the beauty of the slightly wonky stem laden with buds. We believe a bit of extra energy and thoughtfulness to reduce our collective disruption to the earth we live on is always worth it.
FUNDAMENTALLY HUMAN
We believe we humans are at our best when we learn from the natural world. We believe bringing life into our environments is a form of self-care worth a small but meaningful investment in well-being. We believe in taking deep breaths that let us inhale the scent of garden roses after rain. We believe flowers’ ephemeral nature is part of their magic. We believe in accepting nature’s invitation to notice her rhythms. We believe nothing in nature blooms all the time. We believe it’s never been more important to literally touch grass. We believe community creates stronger systems and a stronger global culture.
Picked with care to share joy
Fresh blooms at your table can offer tremendous benefits and go beyond simple beauty. Gorgeous arrangements in our homes shouldn’t just be for weddings or funeral services - rather, they act to lift our moods on a day-to-day basis.
Why buy flowers? Here’s how we think about it: designing our spaces with care and intention reflects how we feel about ourselves, and the care we show ourselves lifts our minds and bodies. Floral arrangements and their intrinsically ephemeral nature are a living, breathing reminder to be present in the moment. Buying ourselves flowers reminds us we’re worth the experience of enjoying them! They offer joy for the sake of joy. As part of regular wellness habits, buying ourselves flowers is a routine that invites us to focus on the now.
According to a behavioral health study conducted by Harvard Medical School & Massachusetts General Hospital, people who keep cut flowers in their homes:
Feel less worry and anxiety
Feel more compassionate toward others
Are more likely to feel happy, with more energy and enthusiasm, both at home and in other parts of their lives
